Ten years ago, we interviewed Alexandre Maisetti, co-founder of Commune de Paris. We asked him to explain the values behind his brand.

He wanted to create a label with a strong, deeply authentic, self-assertive identity. Paris, the universal and rebellious city where the brand was born, has these attributes in buckets. His inspiration is the city’s suburbs seen through the lens of the revolutionary poetry of the 19th century, a rebellion without violence, an assumed freedom.

Each collection is made up of timeless classics and stronger, more assertive graphic pieces. These bring colour and strength and boost the identity of the range without detracting from the focus on a job well done. Materials and manufacturing are all European.

Commune de Paris is targeted at the curious; those who are open to receiving the fresh inspiration that comes from mixing pieces together – for the city dweller who has a general fashion sense without being a victim to it. It is also for the more classic man who is looking for a way to be a little different, discretely but with distinction.

For the summer 2019 collection, Commune de Paris explores the theme of families and what lies at the family centre - the gathering, the belonging, the community. It is a graphic collection borrowing visual codes from Californian gangs and adapting them to French culture. It is colourful, lively, dynamic and inspires action.
